Pecci Filati is one of the sponsors of the exhibition The End of the World, which will inaugurate the new Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci of Prato upon the completion of the futuristic spaceship-shaped extension by the architect Maurice Nio and of the renovation of the original building designed by Italo Gamberini. A highly-significant event, given the Centro Pecci will be the only public institution in Italy devoted to contemporary art and one of the few in Europe to inaugurate a new building in the decade 2010-2020.
Choosing to support this initiative confirms Pecci Filati’s mission to nurture the relationship between art and fashion, of which the Centro Pecci is an expression. The first Italian institution dedicated to contemporary art was in fact donated to the city by Enrico Pecci in 1988 in memory of his son Luigi. Over the years, its mission has been to raise awareness towards national and international art. The Centro Pecci is proud to own a collection which is unique in Italy and includes over 1,000 works by important artists such as Anish Kapoor, Jan Fabre, Jannis Kounellis, Sol LeWitt, and great Italian artists of the previous century, such as Mario Merz and Michelangelo Pistoletto. After nearly thirty years of activity, the Centro Pecci is doubling not only its exhibition surface, but also its events. This is bound to generate new cultural energy capable of attracting visitors to the renovated venue and establishing new relationships between the museum, art and the local, social and productive fabric, which Pecci Filati is part of.
The exhibition The End of the World stems “from the consideration that that which we have known so far is obsolete”, as the curator Fabio Cavallucci emphasized. Not a representation of a catastrophic future, but rather a reflection on the environment in which we live through the works of over 50 international artists displayed throughout the entire exhibition area of the museum – over 3,000 square meters.
Pecci Filati’s approach to fashion is based on ongoing research to explore global trends as well as a perpetual tendency to focus on quality. Pervious to the local cultural energy since it was established, Pecci Filati provides valuable support to contemporary fashion designers with its products, fruit of the company’s know-how, technology and principles, which has placed them among the quintessential Italian-made products.
